SHABBY CHIC
I've heard the term "Shabby Chic" since I was a little girl. My mother and aunts would make do with a handed down piece of furniture, dressing it up with a coat of paint or decoupaging a table top, using it in a completely different manner than it was originally intended and pronouncing it " Shabby Chic." Little did they know that this would become a celebrated way of decorating. But they did know that a piece of furniture with classic lines was not to be discarded but could be given a new life simply by how it was used. Iron gates become works of art when hung over a fireplace. Shutters, hinged together become screens or headboards. Hand-painted furniture is revered regardless of its condition because it reflects the love its received through the years. Antiques, blended with old linens and whimsical architectural elements take on a new life. I have been decorating my homes in the tradition of my mother and aunts for 25 years and so it was natural to continue the look in my shop. It is what I know and what I'm comfortable with. "Shabby Chic" is a warm, inviting look, friendly and full of surprises and it abounds in Sally Shaffer Interiors. I'd love for you to visit. |
